Sourcing is an important subject because typically 50-70% of the cost of production is in the sourcing of ingredients and logistics; much of which comes from unsustainable sources, unhealthy ingredients and using unsustainable logistics. There is a lot of evidence to suggest that relationship-driven sourcing strategies create better value for businesses in the medium to long term, but decision makers lack the understanding to implement these strategies.

Without this knowledge, professionals are also (often unknowingly) adding a large amount of risk into the supply chain by saving money in the short term. So this course focuses on developing a sourcing and logistics strategies for all size businesses to improve businesses in the long-run.

This course is specialised, so is targeted at those who work (or want to work) in sourcing and logistics roles - ideally with some background knowledge in this area.

  • Strategic sourcing
  • Big data applications in cold chain logistics
  • How to apply Interpretive Structural Modelling for risk management
  • How to make producer organisations more competitive
  • How to create opportunity from food losses
  • Successful horticulture business models from around the world
  • Certification case: Business model design for a high-tech horticulture initiative

As part of the certificate, learners will have access to two 30 minute coaching sessions with an industry expert. One session should be scheduled early in the course, and the other session scheduled after completion of the case exercise, so that the expert can feedback on your work and give you some advice on how to continue to apply this learning in your career.

Experts are also available on-demand after you finish the course, should you wish to continue to explore this topic and, as with all our courses, you will also have access to our learner forums to discuss ideas with other learners around the world.

To achieve this certificate, the learner must design a sustainable sourcing and risk management business case for a food processor. This will develop actionable knowledge that can be applied to your own sourcing and logistics strategies, improving the long-term sustainability and profitability of the business.
